If you’ve called our office recently, chances are you’ve talked to me! I’m Jen, and I spend my days answering questions, booking trips, and keeping up with what the captains are seeing on the water. Here’s the latest fishing report from Clearwater Florida.

Summer fishing has been booming!

When Red Snapper season opened on June 1, the bite started off a little slower than everyone hoped, but the Red Grouper fishing more than made up for it. Our 8-hour and longer offshore trips have been producing excellent Red Grouper catches all summer. With a two-fish limit per angler, I always recommend filling all six spots on your charter so your group has the opportunity to bring home the maximum catch.

As June rolled on, the Red Snapper bite really turned on. Just like Red Grouper, there’s a two-fish limit per person, so grab your buddies and make it a full crew. Along with the Red Snapper, our anglers have been catching plenty of Yellowtail Snapper and Mangrove Snapper to round out the coolers.

The good news? Red Snapper season stays open through October 26, so there’s still plenty of time to get out on the water. Red Grouper remains open year-round, so they’ll continue to be one of our primary targets for all day trips as we head into fall.

Now let’s talk about the half-day trips.

While the big snappers and groupers are well offshore, our 4, 5, and 6-hour trips have been keeping anglers entertained. We’ve been seeing lots of Bonita, Barracuda, Spanish Mackerel, and even a few Kingfish. As we move closer to fall, I expect the mackerel fishing to continue improving. Trolling this time of year is a blast, and if you book an early trip, you’ll beat the Florida heat and be back at the dock before noon.

Not interested in trolling? No problem. We’ve got plenty of productive bottom fishing spots where we regularly catch Porgies, Grunts, Hogfish, and other great-eating species.

Looking ahead, fall fishing is right around the corner, and we’re getting excited. Gag Grouper season opens September 1 and runs through October 1, while Amberjack season opens September 1 and continues through October 16. Those dates always book up quickly, so if you’ve been thinking about a September trip, now’s the time to get it on the calendar.

I know one question I get asked all the time is about the weather. Late summer and early fall can bring thundering conditions, but don’t let that stop you from booking. We monitor the forecasts closely, and if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, we’ll work with you to adjust your trip whenever possible.
